A Cat’s Theology

May 7th, 2008 Posted in Cats

Cats like my Chai
Like tickles and petting
Not theology-vetting
Nor pundits retting
The Bible loose
From its mooring.

But then—
His theology is better
Than Bultmann’s
Or Hermann’s,
Those radical Germans,
For his Maker he “knows.”

Awesome! Do we know that we know what we know? Epistemology is so much fun especially when you start reading D.A. Carson’s “Gagging of God”, and Sihaam’s “Building a Christian Worldview” course text. And when you listen to some of the Emergent teachers who are lost somewhere in their navel gazing - I thought belly buttons were quite shallow, but….

    Michael,
Sitting in India researching Carey I stumbled upon your recent posts on Carey and the latest biography on him (thanks).

Then I tripped on this short poem I was wondering whether you have read about Dog and Cat Theology, where the cats do not have it right - like yours.

Also sitting in India, sipping my afternoon chai I cannot help wondering whether you or your cat have an Indian connection, what with Chai (why capitalized) and pundits!

    The pun-dit from Pun-e!

When Freddy (my late cat) was with us, he would sometimes visit me upstairs and just glare at me and then pad off - no doubt thinking I was crazy as I tore my hair out over an essay. I think it is good sometimes to think of their view on life - it allows us a moment of simple thinking which helps put everything in perspective… With that in mind… A thought:

Then, wise-whiskered one, let us find freed’m
    within God’s wisd’m -
    and look with askantz
    on humanity’s rantz.

    Christina:

    very good!

    Ivan:

I have not read about Dog and Cat theology. But do note: my cat had it right!

My wife loves chai tea, hence one of cat’s names (we have two siamese–Siam and KoKo) is called Chai. Hence the capitalization.

    Greetings,
    Michael.
